Sewing for Girls
Yeah for Kindergarten (sniff, sniff)…boo for school uniforms. I remember the excitement for school shopping…the first day of school outfit…new backpack…new binder…new shoes. *Sigh* I really want to sew Briana a new school dress for that first day of school, but aah well, I guess it will be a new dress for SCHOOL PICTURE day! […]

I found this pattern here for this adorable reversible top that is easy to put together. B is in between sizes right now, so I went up and well, as you can see it is a bit big. It works out well for cooler weather as it layers nicely with a turtle neck and come […]
I am sitting here wondering were did February go? Have I been so fixated on this cold weather and looking at the forecast hoping for a sunny and warm (above freezing) temperatures, that I have let this month slip by. Of course, this morning I had this, “Oh, shoot, I have not accomplished anything this […]
Red denim, blue denim and pink corduroy skinny jeans from this pattern.
Christmas Pea Coats
Certainly I am not the ONLY mother out there whose children refuse to wear jackets. While, it may be and frequently is below freezing outside, they will not leave their jackets ON. The moment we are in the car, scratch that, the moment we are within ten feet of the car, the jackets are off.
I am the mother who is bundled warmly herself, yet I have the two kids in long sleeves and jeans, walking in a parking lot going into a store and I am receiving stink eyes from others. Briana will complain about being cold and I remind her that her jacket is in the car and that SHE took it off. Sigh.
The problem is that their warm jackets are bulky and hard to buckle seat belts while wearing them. So, off they come, at least in Briana’s instance. So, I decided to make pea coats with flannel lining that are not bulky and provide a bit more protection than just a long sleeved shirt.
With Eliot’s jacket I wanted a hood and I wanted one that was big enough to pull over a beanie hat. I used a hood from my jacket and one from a snow jacket that fit him and drafted a pattern crossing the two. It is not perfect, but, I now know what to change for the next version (like making it detachable).
Also, with Mr. E’s I am going to add another set of buttons as I did not space them high enough and the weight of the hood pulls the front of the jacket back and changes the fit. With Briana’s, I placed them much higher and as a result I think her jacket fits her better. They both love them and that is all that matters.
And oh yeah, they leave them on in the car.
*The pattern is from Peek-A-Boo pattern shop and can be found here.
Drum roll please…I finally finished Briana’s skinny jeans! They have been draped over a chair waiting to be hemmed and button put on them for oh, well, lets just say it has been so long I have forgotten. Fortunately, an inch of ice, followed by 10 inches of snow and several days off from work, aided in the completion of several projects.
Luckily, when they were done, she was wearing jeans already so it was not too difficult to get her to try them on for me. She LOVED them!
I think that a pair in corduroy and turquoise denim are in the near future….
This tank just begged to be turned into either a maxi dress or twirly dress. Maxi dress won and here it is… I followed this tutorial from Simple Simon & Co, but made my own adjustments as listed below. Cut the tank about 3/4 inch more to keep flower detail Serged my seams because I […]
My daughter is the cutest tomboy (I know I am biased, but seriously, cute!) that likes to look good while shooting her bow, playing in a dirt pile or chasing the chickens! The only thing that she loves more than her dresses and skirts are, well, her shoes! (Okay a slight exaggeration, it really is […]
